One hundred and ninety million. That’s how many dollars Chicago native Anthony Davis will be making thanks to the recent five-year contract he signed with the LA Lakers, keeping him with the team through 2025. For the Lakers, this is great because it keeps AD and LeBron James together for another three years, giving the best duo in the league a few more chances to go for another championship.
The Lakers are coming off winning the 2020 season’s NBA championship, winning in six games against the Miami Heat, led by Jimmy Butler. The Laker big man finished the series averaging 25 points a game, with 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal, getting second in the finals MVP voting behind the winner of the award, James. Retaining AD was a huge priority this offseason, and probably the biggest priority, after acquiring the former Pelican via a trade.
This deal for $190 million is a whole lot of money, even for someone who is used to getting paid millions upon millions. I wouldn’t even know what to do with all that money. To put it into perspective, AD could buy 454 of his closest friends a Lamborghini Aventador S, which costs a whopping $417,862. FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY FOUR! If he wanted to, he could also buy 380,000 new PlayStation 5s, since each console is worth about $500.
With teams getting better, and the competition only getting harder, we shall see what AD and the Lakers are able to do in the coming season. Congrats on the new contract AD!
