
The Game Awards are a prestigious third party organization that recaps the year’s success in gaming and culture and awards the best games with over 30 categories such as storytelling, graphics, music, multiplayer, and so on.
This year has been astronomical for the gaming scene. The two biggest games currently at each other’s throats are FromSoftware/Bandai Namco’s hit release ELDEN RING against Santa Monica Studio/Sony’s God of War Ragnarök.
Amongst the contenders for the Game of the Year are ELDEN RING, God of War Ragnarök, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Horizon: Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Other notable categories people should keep their eyes peeled for are:
Best Game Direction: This is for the games that were innovative and creative in artistic vision and merit. The games chosen are as follows: ELDEN RING, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon: Forbidden West, Immortality, and Stray.
Best Narrative: For the game with the best story or world, the games in this category are A Plague Tale: Requiem, ELDEN RING, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Immortality.
Best Art Direction: For the game with the best and visually breathtaking artstyle and unique graphics! The nominees are ELDEN RING, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon: Forbidden West, Scorn, and Stray.
Best Music and Score: The game with the best soundtrack and music, the nominees are as follows: A Plague Tale: Requiem, ELDEN RING, God of War Ragnarök, Metal: Hellsinger, and Stray.
Best Indie: For the best game developed by an independent developer or studio (one not owned by a big corporation like Sony or Microsoft). The nominees are Cult of the Lamb, Neon White, Tunic, Stray, and Sifu.
Most Anticipated Game: This award is for the game everyone is hyped about and eagerly waiting for a release. The nominees are: Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil 4, Starfield, and TLoZ: Tears of the Kingdom.
There are plenty more to debate and to choose from, but don’t forget that this event is ultimately a place where video gaming culture is recognized amongst its varying and diverse audience, so every game has a good chance at winning.
