Why America Should Be Fearful of a Dictatorship

The United States has had its fair share of ups and downs in the political realm. Presidential elections have caused divide and turmoil throughout the nation and the 2024 presidential election is proving to be no different.

Many fear that re-electing former President Donald Trump will lead to a dictatorship and ultimately the downfall of the country as a whole. These speculations come from Trump and his connection to Project 2025.

Project 2025 โ€œis billed as a policy โ€˜wish listโ€™ for the next Republican president that would vastly expand presidential powers and impose an ultra-conservative social vision on the US,โ€ according to BBC.

This wish list would be making us backtrack and go in the opposite direction of progress and prosperity. Trump has made claims on his platform, Truth Social, that he doesnโ€™t know anything about Project 2025. He continued on to state how he disagrees with โ€œsome of the things,โ€ claiming that โ€œSome of the things theyโ€™re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal,โ€ according to NPR.

Though Trump didnโ€™t write and design the plan for Project 2025, it was created by people who felt that he was the right person to execute these plans and new ways.

There was even mention of a dictatorship at this yearโ€™s Democratic National Convention by State Senator Mallory McMorrow. With her Project 2025 book in hand, McMorrow took the stage and said to audience members โ€œThis is Project 2025 and whatever you think it is, it is so much worse,โ€ the Detroit Free Press reported.

There is fear of a dictatorship partially because of Trumpโ€™s speech at a Christian summit as well as the content of Project 2025. In his speech, according to The Guardian, he stated that the attendees should โ€œget out and vote, just this time,โ€ emphasizing the fact that voters โ€œwonโ€™t have to do it anymoreโ€ and that in four years, โ€œitโ€™ll be fixed, itโ€™ll be fine, you wonโ€™t have to vote anymore.โ€

โ€œAbout half of the public think it would be a bad idea if the next president is able to act on important policy issues without the approval of Congress or the courts. Only 21% think it would be a good thing, and about 30% think itโ€™s neither good nor bad. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to think it would be a bad thing,โ€ said AP.

Project 2025 will be taking America in the opposite direction of progress and positivity. Research this electionโ€™s candidates and who stands for what causes. Donโ€™t forget to get out there and vote on November 5th!
