“The TikTok app is a malicious and menacing threat…” An Indiana Attorney General announced on December 6th, according to an article by CNN.
Indiana’s lawsuit against TikTok is just the latest amongst other places in the United States, including Texas, Maryland, and South Dakota. However, don’t worry, because this will for sure not affect you, unless you’re a government employee. The ban is only for government-issued devices.
Why should you care about what they do with private information? It’s clearly an overreach of government and corporation power, and especially dangerous if it’s information from government employees.
Another lawsuit, though, claimed that the reason they did it was because it hits a little closer to home for teens and young people. They claimed that TikTok has supposedly been luring kids onto the platform by saying it’s okay for 13 to 17-year-olds.
If you’ve been on TikTok long enough, you know that eventually you can come across videos with alcohol, drugs, and even nudity, that for some reason get past the app’s censors. Content like that gets exposed to 13-year-olds.
What do you think of these bans? Do you think they’re justified? Let me know!
