Your memories last online forever…

So, this ‘Unfriended’ preview came on my TV screen last night and I just couldn’t turn the channel. Something about seeing friends partying, a young girl being humiliated after a video of her is anonymously posted online and then committing suicide, and it all taking place online, caught my attention. The remaining group of friends being ‘haunted’ by the dead girl via Skype to find out who befriended her shows how much this society has succumbed to living life online. And although it may not relate, you never know whose watching or who you could trust. Watch the trailer below and tell us your thought:

Aside from the movie, an issue that a lot of teens may face is cyberbullying, which seems like the overall agenda for this film. According to stopbullying.gov cyberbulling includes:

mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

What kids and teens aren’t aware of is the effects of cyberbullying and the fact that it can happen to any age, no matter how young you are. Cyberbullying is more strongly related to suicidal thoughts in children and adolescents and suicide is one of the biggest causes of death in adolescents. If you feel you are being bullied online, its important to seek help from a responsible adult to help alleviate the situation. And remember, online friends should also be friends in the real world, know how to separate yourself from online strangers.
