Markiplier, king of “Five Nights At Freddy’s,” is making a movie that will be released in theaters.
If you don’t know who Markiplier is, or maybe just need a refresher, I’ve got you. Mark’s a Korean-American YouTuber with over 34 million subscribers, best known for his gaming videos, his “Markiplier Makes” cooking videos, and co-creating the now-deleted channel “Unus Annus.”
Recently, he released a “choose your own adventure” style video series on YouTube called “In Space With Markiplier,” which was nominated for an Emmy. So, if anything, he already is familiar enough with film.
On April 21st, Mark uploaded a teaser trailer for his movie, titled “Iron Lung.” This movie is based on a 2022 indie horror game with the same name, created by David Szymanski. The video game is about a prisoner trapped on a submarine as they are forced to explore the deep ocean, and discover the frightening creatures within.
Not only is the movie written and directed by Mark, but it stars him as well, along with Caroline Kaplan and a cameo by Syzmanski. Syzmanski is also credited as a writer for the movie. Not too much has been revealed besides that. However, on Markiplier’s podcast, Distractible, he has talked about doing hard stunts for the at-the-time mysterious movie. Since the game was mostly just piloting a sub around the ocean, the movie will probably expand on the story to at least include said stunts.
Whatever they do, it’ll probably be a faithful adaptation with the creator on board, and Mark’s “Unus Annus” history of having a deep-seated fear of the ocean. As a writer, I know there’s nothing more authentic than creating something based on your fears.
Clearly, when Markiplier did his playthrough of “Iron Lung,” he liked it enough to make a movie out of it. Coming sometime in 2023, it’s sure to be an interesting experience.
Are you excited about “Iron Lung”? Do you think an influencer will make a good movie? Let me know!
