SpelHouse’s Homecoming 2025, or what most students argue is the greatest homecoming on earth (GHOE), recently took place at the AUC in Atlanta and the campus is still recovering.
Fun was had from the first step into the Spelman College’s gates to the last song played at Morehouse’s tailgate. The weeklong build-up consisted of the annual AUC agency homecoming fashion showcase, neo soul and Hip-Hop artists, after-parties, and a market Friday reunion that held alumni and students at Spelman’s oval to conclude the week. It’s fair to say that SpelHouse 2025 was a cultural fusion.
If you thought it couldn’t become any more groundbreaking, Chicago took the stage, and what happens when our city’s energy meets ATL’s rhythm? Magic. On Wednesday night, artists G Herbo, Babychief, and several other surprise guests, took SpelHouse’s annual Hip-Hop concert to another level. The crowd was alive, and Chicago culture was given due respect and appreciation. To witness my city represented in the heart of my HBCU was a feeling I was unable to name. This year’s Homecoming was a reminder that our cities don’t just collide, but they collaborate and compliment.
The momentum didn’t stop there, it felt like it had only just begun. Saturday’s tailgate was the epitome of Black joy. Vibrance and laughter filled the air. Morehouse and Spelman paraphernalia marked every corner of the campus. The scent of barbecue from sorority tents drifted miles away, and the legacy embedded in the joy of reunion across the graduating classes and generations was testament to the power of Black collegiate culture. This wasn’t your stereotypical tailgate. It was a ritual. A reclamation. An archive.
HBCU TikTok was roaring in recognition of the iconic moments that emerged from SpelHouse 2025. This year wasn’t just a celebration, but a blueprint for how we show up, turn up, and honor our legacy.
