What if one dream could change everything? That was the message at Dream Summit Chicago: Free to Dream, an event that proved how powerful a single vision can be in shaping your future. Organized by Grammy Award-winning artist Common, for one day, a group of young people gathered to be inspired, connect with others, and get motivated to take bold steps toward their goals. From interactive activities to powerful stories of success, Dream Summit was a whirlwind of creativity, ambition, and big ideas, showing everyone that no dream is too big to chase.
The day kicked off with a breakfast buffet, and we were provided with a variety of merch, including hoodies, notebooks, and tote bags. They also passed out headphones and teens were able to have a silent party and interact for the first hour. We then participated in ice breakers getting us active and talking to those around us.
The dayโs lineup of speakers took things even further, sharing personal stories about how one dream changed the course of their lives. Chelsea B, a crochet artist who turned her passion into a thriving business, was one of the most inspiring speakers. Chelseaโs work, which started as a hobby, eventually caught the attention of brands like Air Jordan. She recently released a shoe collaboration called โThe Air Jordan 1 Low โINVERTEDโ,โ inspired by her upbringing within Chicago.
โIโm just dreaming bigger now because everything that I couldโve dreamed of so far has already happened, from me working with celebrities to having my own shoe endorsement and more,โ Chelsea shared, showing how persistence and passion can turn any dream into a reality.
โI want to have a global impact and showcase Chicago talent, creative talent, in a very positive way.โ

After the speakers, participants were guided through a calming meditation session by instructors from Yogaletics, allowing everyone to reflect and clear their minds before diving into the afternoon workshops. During these sessions, students worked through journaling prompts, brainstorming their own dreams and goals for the future. It was a chance to step back and think about where they wanted to go, and how to get there.
โMy favorite activity was writing a letter to my future self because I was able to truly understand who I wanted to be in 10 years and what I want to accomplish and achieve,โ says Paige Gordon, a junior at Lindblom Math and Science Academy.
At the end of the day, Dream Summit Chicago was more than just a series of talks and activitiesโit was a reminder that dreams are powerful. It showed everyone that no matter where you come from or what challenges you face, your dreams are worth pursuing. The event left everyone with a renewed sense of possibility, knowing that with focus, determination, and a community of supporters, anything is achievable.
