Grammy-winning artist Che “Rhymefest” Smith recently announced that he is running for a seat in the 10th District in Chicago’s new elected school board. Rhymefest recently held his press conference at the Silver Room boutique in Hyde Park.

Most people know Rhymefest from his music career and his hit song “Jesus Walks,” and “Brand New” created with Kanye West. But now Smith is looking to make the CPS system better for our community and for the youth. Smith stated, “I want to bring in new programming like photography, coding, journalism and more to every CPS school. All CPS schools should be a selective enrollment. All schools should have equal opportunity from foods, activities and sports.”

Plenty of supporters from the Hyde Park community were on hand to sign a petition to get him on the voting ballot.
