From a lack of funding to lack of fields to play and practice on, getting to the knockout round of the Women’s World Cup was no easy feat for the Reggae Girlz of Jamaica, but they still made it happen.
Formed in 1987, the team didn’t make their debut until 1991 where they played against Haiti and lost 1-0. In 2018, the Reggae Girlz qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time in the team’s history, according to Epic Jamaica. Fast forward to the present and they made it all the way to the knockout round.
Their amazing run ended on Tuesday following a defeat from Colombia. The score was 1-0.

The team is backed by ambassador Cedella Marley, daughter of Bob Marley, who aides in raising awareness about the team as well as helping to financially support them.
Despite not making it to the end, the fact that the team made it this far is something to celebrate. Congratulations to the Reggae Girlz on advancing to the knockout round and beating the odds!
