And so the beef continues.
Just when we all thought the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud had finally come to a close, Drake threw a curveball. The Canadian rapper is filing a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify “over allegations that the two companies conspired to artificially inflate the popularity of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us,’” according to Billboard. The alleged scheme is said to involve bots among other ways of illegally increasing streams.
Drake’s lawyers have alleged that “Not Like Us” is defamatory, accusing the rapper of being a sex offender, pedophile and hanging around sex offenders.
The news of this legal action came on Monday, November 25, just days after the surprise release of Kendrick’s new album, GNX. This is Kendrick’s first album since 2022’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.
The strangest part is how both artists are signed to UMG, just in different divisions. Drake is signed to Republic Records while Kendrick is signed to Interscope.
We’re interested to see where this situation goes. Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
