Trump’s Untimely Attack

What this means for gun control laws and the next presidential election

Donald Trump has chosen Senator JD Vance, who reps Ohio, as his choice for vice president.

Just days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the nation is left with more questions than answers. The last attempted assassination against a president/presidential candidate was Ronald Reagan in March of 1981, according to USA Today. Many were previously under the impression that assassinations of presidents don’t happen anymore, but this proves they are mistaken.

Trump wasn’t the only one injured during this attempt. Though Trump was grazed in his right ear, Corey Comperatore was protecting his family from gunfire when he was struck and died from his injuries. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, were struck and seriously injured, reports BBC. The gunman was killed shortly after opening fire and was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, according to USA Today.

Little time was given to fully digest the shooting that took place before more shocking news arose. Trump picked his running mate just a day after being grazed. Senator JD Vance has been formally selected to be Trump’s running mate for this election, according to CBS News.

This raises even more questions and concerns as Vance previously publicly dissed Trump a while back. In audio from 2021, he was recorded agreeing with someone who called Trump a “total fraud,” according to a Tweet made by Andy Kaczynski. CNN even reported that Vance once called his new running mate an “American Hitler.”

The state of this country is becoming more and more worrisome and is raising concerns of many, regardless of their political stance. Gun control laws, attempted assassinations, already-feuding president and vice president candidates and who knows what else is going on behind closed doors.

This election is one of the most important, if not the most important, in history. If you’re of age and haven’t already, register to vote. Every vote counts toward improving our country.
