On March 9th True Star raised the bar when it comes to connecting young people with the power of content creation. True Star brought together three of our after-school programs, all centered around teaching high school students the fundamentals of creating different types of media.
The event, planned by True Star’s programing team—Marti Parham and Kennedye Harris—brought together the video production group stationed in Bronzeville at the TS headquarters, the podcast and content creation team stationed out West at the BBF Center, and Trent Sapp’s Corliss High School students from the Broadcast Tech program to collaborate on a podcast.

For the past couple years True Star has partnered with Sapp and his group of students who are known for producing their very own web shows on YouTube. This year they’re working on a new teen drama called “Two Hearts, One mind.” It’s about a girl who wants to chase her dream of playing basketball with her best friend, but her mom isn’t supportive because she wants her to do something else.
The co-program was held at the TS headquarters. After coming together for the “Star to Star” ice-breaker that allowed the students to get to know each other better, the group moved over to Studio B. That’s where BBF students Corde’ McGee and Trinity Moore, hosts of “The Lifin’ Podcast,” interviewed “Two Hearts, One Mind” team members Quincy Davis, Kymora Kinley, and Ta’Davia Victory. The trio talked about what fans can look forward to seeing when the show debuts in May.
The video production team was responsible for recording the live podcast and editing the footage. All the participants who attended the event created reels to document the day. By the time the event came to an end, networking took place, skills learned in the programs were used, lots of pizza was eaten, and a good time was had by all.
This may have been True Star’s first co-program event, but it definitely won’t be the last.
