You’ve heard of drunk texting and sleepwalking, but have you ever heard of sleep texting? Well, it’s a thing. Sleep texting is basically a self-explanatory term—it’s sending messages while you’re sleeping and most of the time you don’t remember it. If you’ve ever woken up and looked at your phone to see gibberish in your recent messages—then you are a victim of sleep texting.
Researchers at Villanova University’s College of Nursing have conducted a study among teens and young adults asking them about their phone usage, where their phone is while they’re sleeping, sleeping habits, and how the two have a relationship with each other. Most of the time, like me, you probably sleep with your phone right next to you or somewhere within arm’s reach. This study proved that this is actually common. According to The Star, 25.6 percent of those who participated in the study said that they do text in their sleep and have poor sleep quality as a result of their cell phone. The study also concluded that almost three-quarters of those who took part in the study don’t even remember texting and a quarter of them don’t remember who they were texting.
