In the words of Stacey King, Jimmy G. Buckets and the ‘G’ stands for GETS!
Chicago Bulls’ Jimmy Butler got way more than buckets last night, during a 115-113 win over the Toronto Raptors, when he set a franchise record for points in a half. In only 24 minutes, Butler went 14-for-19 shooting, 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 10-for-11 from the free throw line. His 40 point half performance tops Michael Jordan’s 39 points, a record that was set back on Feb. 16, 1989 during the second half against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Butler, who only scored two points in the first half, was elbowed in the face by Raptor’ DeMarre Carroll in the second quarter. I’m not sure if the elbow to the head set him off, or if Butler’s Jordan endorsement made him more Like Mike than Lil’ Bow Wow could ever be. Surprisingly enough, Butler took his record breaking moment in stride and expressed no interest in wanting to even be compared to Michael Jordan. “Don’t compare me to him,” Butler said. “I don’t want to be compared to him because then people are going to think I got to do what he did. I’m trying. But we’re nowhere near the same player.”
If you didn’t respect Butler before, you most certainly need to respect him now — most players would kill for the MJ comparison, whether they broke his record or not. Phenomenal job Jimmy; keep getting those buckets!
