Being A Curly Girl

Having naturally curly hair can be a struggle. It can be hard to maintain and the products we use aren’t cheap. One thing that every curly girl should know is, WE ALL DON’T HAVE THE SAME CURL PATTERNS. So that means that a girl with loose, flowing curls shouldn’t have the same wash routine as a girl with tight, bouncy curls. Finding the right products and tools for our hair can be so nerve wrecking! But, don’t be afraid to experiment. This may sound weird but, listen to your hair. It knows what’s best for it. While experimenting try to use the same line of products. For example, you may be using Shea Moisture’s curl smoothie and Carol’s Daughter’s hair milk and wondering why your curls are so wacky. You won’t be able to figure out which product did the damage because you used different products at the same time. The only time that you should use a different product is when you see that another product isn’t working for you.

The tools that we use on our hair are as important as the products we use on our hair. You want to make sure that the tools you are using are gentle on the hair and not damaging it. Some of the tools that every curly girl should own are: Wide Tooth comb, Paddle Brush, Denman Brush, Edgy Brush, Diffuser, and a spray bottle full of water. The wide tooth comb and paddle brush are GREAT for detangling. The Denman brush and diffuser are used for desired volume and texture. The Edgy brush keeps edges frizz free and laid down. And the water is just a natural hydrator and moisturizer.

Some products that curly girls should own are: Cantu, Shea Moisture, Carol’s Daughter, Eco Styler, Curls, Motions, Edge Booster, etc. These products keep curls frizz free, hydrated, and defined. But there are different lines of each product for different hair types such as thick, thin and wavy. If you’re the tight curl girl you should look into Shea Moisture’s Coconut and Hibiscus line. If you’re a loose curl girl you should look into Carol’s Daughter’s Hair Milk. Also any natural oils such as: Black Castor Oil, Olive oil, Jojoba oil, etc. and massaging the scalp are GREAT for hair growth.  Not only will your curls be “POPPIN” but your hair will be longer, stronger, and healthier as well.
