Ever thought of creating a formula to cure those bad hair days? Well, the duo, Wendi Levy and Kim Ethredge, behind Mixed Chicks did just that, experimented with every product, struggling to find the perfect one to tame their hair. In stores across the nation, Mixed Chicks products are lightweight and made for women regardless of hair texture.

After joining Walmart this past weekend as guests for the 46th Annual NAACP Image Awards Viewing Event and being honored for their support and participation in bringing awareness regarding Sickle Cell Disease, True Star got a glimpse inside the minds of the Curly Revolution, Mixed Chicks Founders.

What inspired you to begin Mixed Chicks?
Mixed Chicks was conceived from a personal need. Wendi and I both struggled for years to find the products for our curl or straight hair styles.
What are the main issues you think women have with their hair?
Many women are just not patient with their hair. We haven’t had the choices in hair products for our “combination” hair but now more and more Companies are providing that so I feel woman are now taking the time and finding the right products to deal with their hair textures.
How do you plan to expand Mixed Chicks?
Mixed Chicks is expanding the line with our necessary products as well as venturing into Cosmetics.
What tips can you offer teens who have hair trouble after experimenting?
If you have used products that may have damaged your hair, stop using heat for a bit, condition and make sure to cut your ends regularly to eliminate damaged hair.
Before creating Mixed Chicks, what products did you use?
We have used every product under the sun. From Paul Mitchell to Pink Oil Moisturizer, gels and hair sprays.
Are your products specifically for ‘Mixedchicks or are they open for all races to use?
We consider everyone to be a “Mixed Chicks” You can be of one race or many but more often your hair is a “combination” of textures and that’s what Mixed Chicks represents!
Being from 2 different states, how did Kim and Wendi link up to create this business?
Wendi and I met when she moved to California and worked in the music business alongside my sister. I invited her to a barbeque at my house and the rest is history!
What are your favorite Mixed Chicks products?
The leave-in conditioner is probably our favorite but we have a new product called “morning after” and it refreshes your curls the next day without having to re-wash or wet your hair!
