In this day and age teenagers are looking up to celebrities as role models. “Sixteen and Pregnant” on MTV has become more and more popular since it first aired in June, 2009, which eventually led to Teen Mom airing just months later. Teen girls have started seeing teen pregnancy more acceptable than ever, making the stars of the show somewhat role models for the way they have handled their situations. Angelica Evancook,16, from Lane Tech High School stated, “Farah didn’t plan for the kind of life she turned out to have, but she made the best out of it.” Farrah Abrahams has become one of these role models.
After releasing “Backdoor Teen Mom”, her first pornographic video, Abraham has gained more media attention than all the teen moms. At first Farrah claimed to have not been apart of such an industry, but later changed her story. Abraham claims, “My sex tape ruined my life,” but later released a second tape, “Farrah 2: Backdoor and More.” Teen moms themselves are relating to these stars, but Farrah Abraham may be setting a horrible example for teens.
Not only has she used her popularity from Teen Mom to her advantage, but she has also conducted interviews about her plastic surgeries saying she would have no problem if Sophie, her five-year-old daughter, had surgeries in the future as well. Sydney Gonzalez,16, a student from Taft High School, says that, “She should be setting a better example for her daughter. You should learn to love every part of yourself. The fact that we’re putting her in the spot light at all says a lot about us as a society.” Abraham herself has had a nose job, chin implants, a boob job, and then to top it off, another boob job.
That’s not all. Farrah has now been claiming that she was raped multiple times while promoting her adult film at various strip clubs. Although, Vivid Entertainment, the company behind her video, offered her one million dollars in order to take a lie detector test. It has been assumed that Farrah has not responded because they have now sent her a cease and desist letter which states, (Vivid Entertainment)“These statements are defamatory toward Vivid are strenuously denied in all respects. It is disappointing that you have once again chosen to pursue conduct that frustrates your duty of good faith and fair dealing in our contract concerning your performance as an adult actress for Vivid.” Jasmine Ramos, a student from Lincoln Park High School, thinks that, “It sounds like she should get her story straight. Whether she was raped or is a porn star, neither is worth promoting. Both are serious matters and need to be treated as such.” Farrah has become a public figure and hasn’t been setting a good example for her daughter or the thousands of people that have been watching her, and it’s about time that we start putting worthy people in the spotlight.
