“There are a lot of kids out there who need help, who are getting a lot of negative reinforcement. And is there more that we can do to give them the sense that their country cares about them and values them and is willing to help.” The previous statement is that of President Obama in July 2013. He is aware that there are people who need and want help in order to better themselves despite their situation. My people fall victim to their negative environments and get so deep into it that it is hard to escape without a little help. Obama is willing to find a way to be that help and assist anyway possible. A year later he is launching a program called “My Brothers Keeper” to do just that.
“My Brothers Keeper” is an initiative launched by President Obama that will target every boy and young man of African American descent who is willing to work and make a change for the better.
In the past there has been the feeling that the government doesn’t help the community but hinders it. There’s always talk about assisting the lower middle class and poor, but very little is ever done. This is a great way to show the African American community that the government does care. Statistics show that now African American women are more successful than African American males. More women are graduating from college and landing job opportunities. There are many reasons that can be assumed as to why African American males are not doing as well as they should be, but as long as they are trying to make an improvement and make a change that’s all that matters. And with the help of our phenomenal 44th President of The United States the sky is the limit for these young men.
It doesn’t matter where you came from as long as you know where you’re going.
